Meet Crystal Schindel | Educational Leadership Consultant
I'm Crystal Schindel, founder of Crystal Clear Consulting, an educational leader, advocate, and doctoral candidate who believes that sustainable leadership begins with understanding people and the conditions in which they work.
Throughout my career in education, I've worked alongside teachers, school administrators, families, and communities navigating the increasingly complex realities of educational leadership. My experiences as a rural school principal and provincial educational advocate have given me a unique perspective on the challenges facing educational organizations, particularly those related to recruitment, retention, workload, and leadership sustainability.
I've learned that leadership challenges rarely have simple explanations. Behind the policies, expectations, and organizational structures are people doing their best within systems that don't always provide the conditions they need to succeed.
That understanding is what inspired Crystal Clear Consulting.

My leadership journey has shaped how I see change.
My career in education began in 2008, and much of what I understand about leadership has been shaped by working in rural Saskatchewan schools. As a teacher, learning resource teacher, and school principal, I've experienced firsthand the opportunities and complexities of leading in communities where relationships matter deeply, resources are often stretched, and expectations continue to grow.
Serving as a school principal strengthened my understanding of the responsibilities leaders carry. From supporting staff and students to navigating budgets, recruitment, professional development, and community expectations, I came to recognize how frequently organizational challenges become individual burdens.
My leadership experience extends beyond the school level. Through my involvement with the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation, including serving on its provincial Executive since 2022, I've participated in provincial advocacy, collective bargaining, organizational governance, and decisions affecting educators across Saskatchewan. These experiences have reinforced the importance of authentic voice, trust, and meaningful participation in decision-making.
My work as an adult educator, facilitator, and leadership mentor has further shaped my approach. I've learned that meaningful professional growth rarely comes from simply telling people what to do. It develops through reflection, collaboration, practical learning, and opportunities to challenge existing assumptions.
As a doctoral candidate researching the challenges facing rural school leaders, I continue to explore the relationship between organizational conditions and leadership sustainability. This research, combined with my professional experiences, informs the development of the Leadership Sustainability Framework™.
Across these experiences, one belief has remained consistent: sustainable leadership requires more than capable individuals. It requires organizations willing to examine and change the conditions in which people lead.
I believe leadership begins with listening.
Throughout my career, I've learned that some of the most important leadership insights emerge when we stop trying to solve problems long enough to understand the people experiencing them.
I believe that every organization has its own story. Its history, relationships, challenges, and strengths shape what is possible. Meaningful change begins by understanding that context rather than assuming the same solutions will work everywhere.
I also believe that people deserve more than an opportunity to be heard. They deserve meaningful opportunities to influence decisions that affect their work. When leaders approach conversations with curiosity, listen with intention, and build trust through their actions, they create conditions where people can contribute authentically.
My approach is simple: understand before assuming, listen before solving, and involve people in shaping the changes they will experience.
I'd love to hear your story.
Every leadership journey is different, and every organization faces challenges shaped by its own people, experiences, and circumstances.
If something in my story resonates with you, or if you're exploring how to create more sustainable leadership conditions within your organization, I'd welcome the opportunity to connect.
You don't need a perfectly defined problem or a plan for what comes next. Sometimes the most meaningful place to begin is simply sharing your story.
